            Ecoweek 2008 and Papasotiriou bookstores: Discussion and book signing  on green archictecture
            The week of April 7-13, 2008, within the framework of the international conference Ecology + Environment + Architecture, 
            Papasotiriou bookstores will display books on green architecture in their windows at the following store locations: 
            37 Panepistimiou street & Korai, at 35 Stournari street and at The Mall Athens Shopping Center.
 
            On Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 7 pm at Papasotiriou bookstore on 37 Panepistimiou street and Korai, a discussion 
            and book signing will take place with landscape designer Julie Bargmann, director Jacques Allard, architect Alexandros 
            Tombazis and green building architect Kostas Tsipiras. The discussion will be moderated by ECOWEEK President, architect
            Elias Messinas. 
            Free admission.
 
            JULIE BARGMANN
            Julie Bargmann is internationally recognized as an innovative designer in building regenerative landscapes. Her on-going 
            design research Project D.I.R.T. (Design Investigations Reclaiming Terrain) continues to excavate the creative potential of 
           disturbed landscapes. At the University of Virginia, Associate Professor Bargmann leads multidisciplinary design studios where 
          students encounter real places in real time. Bargmanns work was awarded the 2001 National Design Award by Smithsonians 
          Cooper-Hewitt Museum. TIME magazine and CNN, along with national and international design publications have recognized Bargmann
           as leading the next generation in making a difference for design and the environment.
 
            JACQUES ALLARD, DIRECTOR
            Documentary LAST CALL FOR PLANET EARTH
            The planet is in danger. The challenge is very simple and its a matter of survival. There is only one possible escape: the quick 
           and energetic mastery of sustainable development. Its application to architecture and town planning. What to do? Working differently 
           in order to build differently and  do everything in order to protect our vulnerable environment. Solar energy, renewable materials,
          targeted changes in city design, passive houses and bioclimatic architecture, are some of the answers that 12 world acclaimed 
          architects suggest in Jacques Allards new documentary Last Call for Planet Earth. Greek subtitles  70
 
            ALEXANDROS TOMBAZIS
            Born in India in 1939, His interest in technology and the first oil crisis made him turn towards the use of solar and 
           alternative energy sources, which have become an integral part of his architectural design. Alexandros Tombazis has been awarded 
           prizes in more than 110 national, international or invited competitions. Apart from those in Greece, projects have been built in Cyprus,
           Portugal, the Netherlands, Romania, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. In 1991 he was elected honorary fellow of the 
           American Institute of Architects, while in 2006 he was awarded an honorary PhD by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
 
           KOSTAS TSIPIRAS
           Kostas Stephanou Tsipiras has been working in bioclimatic architecture and green building for the past 25 years and has 
          designed and built more than 200 ecological buildings in Greece and Europe.  Tsipiras graduated from the Aristotle University of 
          Thessaloniki, the Ecole du Batiment (Paris), obtained his DEA at the University of Paris-Sorbonne Paris IV and his doctorate from 
         Grenoble University.  He has authored 14 books on mountainous Greece, on ecology and local tradition.  In 2005 Kostas  Tsipiras 
          and architect Themis Tsipiras published the book Ecological Architecture (Kedros Publications).

ECO EVENTS DAY Kifissia June 2007 March 19, 2008

The        The Municipality of Kifissia in collaboration with Eco Action Forum invites you to join in the day of events it is

 n           organising to raise awareness about the environment. 

   

     ECO Events 2007 Kifissia 

                                                          

        Saturday 2nd JUNE 2007    11.00am-2.30pm 

             

               Kifissia Shopping Centre, Kolokotroni Levidou and Kasaveti str. Athens.     

   

         Come and join us so we can:          

      

             * make recycled paper from newspapers        

             * make paper hats, bags and Chinese lanterns from … coffee filters!        

             * make original jewellery to take away with you.                

             * create artwork using recycled materials        

             * make puppet dolls from old rags        

             * see huge men on stilts, dressed as trees!        

     

        All the events are offered free by the Municipality of Kifissia

       

            Take this opportunity to learn about recycling and composting, find out how breastfeeding is eco-friendly,

             learn about Fair Trade, environmental programmes for young people, and see the project and artwork of

             local school children.

   Help our municipality become GREEN!
