This past week I was fortunate to hear Paul Hawken speak in Colorado. Mr. Hawken is a true eco-warrior and entrepeneur, having written the seminal book "The Ecology of Commerce" as well as co-authoring "Natural Capitalism", amongst 4 other books and countless articles. His new book "Blessed Unrest" speaks to how environmental issues and social justice issues are indelibly linked (and is named thusly based on the blessed unrest often felt by artistic folks). Likewise he notes that it is important for us to act locally, to not worry about 10 or 50 years into the future (this may cause unneccesary anguish!), and realize when you look into the mirror that YOU are the hero: do not wait on some charismatic, white male leader who will take us to the green promised land. Each of us has the power to make change happen. So to the ladies of Green Sisters I wish you great successes and small ones; always keep your heads up and know that you are doing important work. And in order for the 100's of thousands of similar organisations worldwide to share their experiences/background/goals Mr Hawken has established a collaborative website, www.wiserearth.org .
